I recently had the fortune to travel to the UK for an international sailing regatta called COWES WEEK. This is an international sailing event where sailors – young and old – put themselves through 8 days of tough sailing to win a trophy. What I like about this event is the diversity of the sailors who take part – from all over the world, all different backgrounds and abilities.
This is why I love sailing. Everyone looks the same with their sailing clothes on! It’s also a great way to get outdoors and get a little closer to nature. It’s so easy to get stuck in the world of social media and our phones, and I love a good youtube video with the best of them, but there’s no substitute for actually getting out there and doing something active. A healthy balance is good for us all.
We have a DISCOVER SAILING course that is pretty relaxed and informal. It enables people to experience first hand the joy of sailing. I think people are most surprised when we motor out of Jolly Harbour, hoist the sails and turn the engine off. It’s so peaceful. You can take as little as 4 nights on board in high season and less in our low season. So it’s just you and your Instructor. You also get to see the island from the water and enjoy the wonderful snorkelling and swimming off the boat. It’s your yacht, your way.
