Something old, something blue… in Antigua

Wherever you look when you are cruising Antigua and Barbuda, you will see the most amazing blue ocean and sky. Partly the reason that the colours are so vibrant in these cruising waters is the fact that most of the ocean bottom is made up of white sand around Antigua and Barbuda (hence so many beaches, too!).  Take a look at this photograph below – one of the many highlights of cruising the west coast cruising ground.  The blue of the Caribbean almost merges with the blue of the sky – just wonderful.

A view of Nevis; from sailing Antigua

For something old, well you can’t go too far in Antigua and Barbuda without seeing one of the many sugar mills whilst you are out sailing; all left over from a bygone age.  Explore many of the hills above the charter anchorages by foot, and you will likely find a scattering of old ruins from Nelson’s Day, or perhaps an old canon, proudly looking out to sea.
