Fountaine Pajot Helia 44

“Helia”, meaning sunshine in Greek, is a bright name for the brilliant new Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 catamaran.

At Forty four feet long, and over twenty four feet wide, the Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 is available as a 3 cabin version with owners stateroom in the starboard hull, with en suite facilities and a study area, with two additional double cabins, with en suites in the port hull, or as 4 cabin version, with 4 double en suite cabins. Both layouts can also have an additional single berth forward in each bow.

Through their long affiliation with Fountaine-Pajot, Beret Racoupeauhave poured all their catamaran design expertise into the Helia 44. Boarding at the stern, you are greeted by wide open transoms, (one with a swimming ladder) with spacious steps that lead to a cockpit that has seating for eight to ten persons at the cockpit table.

The designers have achieved a level deck  to walk between the cockpit and the saloon, which opens up to give a true al fresco ambience to the saloon at anchor, and terrific communication and conviviality between the saloon, cockpit and helm position under way. The helm position is unique, in the way that it is both part of the cockpit, and part of the upper deck, which enables the skipper ( and two others) to sit at the helm, with unhindered 360 degree vision, whilst at the same time, being connected with the crew and activity in the saloon and cockpit. Next to the helm position is a sun deck, which makes for very sociable sailing.

All sailing control lines are led back to the winches just forward of the helm position. The design of the Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 allows Captain or crew to handle the sails, without cluttering the helm position itself with lines. With options of a powerful autopilot, and an electric winch to hoist the mainsail, this yacht is easily sailed short handed, and her 1237 sq.ft of sail area, coupled with a 10.8 ton displacement, and outstanding bridge deck clearance, makes her fast and comfortable under sail.

There is an extensive list of upgrades – generator, air conditioning,  comprehensive Garmin electronics packages,  a Bose sound system and underwater LED lights to name but a few. Read Cruising World’s review of the Helia 44 here. You can also watch a video of the Helia 44 in action here:
