It is for you to use your own judgement on when you should decide to take the engine off, but this is standard practice on the longer passages such as St Vincent to Carriacou.
You do not need to remove the outboard if you are chartering a catamaran, but the dinghy must always be lifted and stowed in the davits when underway.
