Ten talented young sailing coaches from Clubs and Sailing Schools in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique have completed a World Sailing Technical Course for Coaches, the first to be hosted in Grenada by the Grenada Sailing Association, with funding support from the International Olympic Committee and Grenada Olympic Committee.
Noah Bullen, Robert Fleming, Rees Evans, Kevin Banfield, Kwesi Paul, Shakeem Collins, Akim Clement, Aaron Malcolm, Zachary Lagan and Arkim Compton took part in the 5 day programme, which was run by Tim Cross, World Sailing Training & Development, Nominated Expert, who flew to Grenada from England specifically to take part. The course, held at True Blue Bay Resort & Villas, was a combination of theory and class work as well as practical exercises on the water and provided a comprehensive range of skills, knowledge and experience to the young coaches.
Grenada Sailing Association, is a World Sailing ‘Member National Authority’ (MNA) and because of this was eligible to apply to host one of the prestigious Technical Training Courses that the organisation runs. It is the first time that the GSA has put forward an application and was extremely pleased to have been successful. The course was a great success and already plans are moving forward for an application to host the next level course early in 2017.
The Grenada Sailing Association is pleased to have achieved another important goal in the development of quality technical training in Junior Sailing and would like to thank the Grenada Olympic Committee for its valuable assistance. The Association would also like to thank Terry Neilson, Catfish Inc. & the Gouyave Sailing School, Grenada Yacht Club and Woburn Wind Warriors for the loan of boats and equipment, and Russ &
Magdalena Fielden & True Blue Bay Resort for providing accommodation and hospitality as the Home Base for the course. Thanks also goes to Camper & Nicholsons Marinas; Budget Marine; Grenada Marine; Horizon Yacht Charters; Island Dreams Yacht Services; Grenada Yacht Club and Glenelg Spring Water for their long term support.
