On April 29 2019 James Pascall – co-owner of Horizon Yacht Charters Grenada and St Vincent – set out to run a marathon the length of Grenada in the southern Caribbean. James coincided his run with the Virgin Money London Marathon; same time, same distance, same pain! As many of our sailing friends know, doing anything in the heat of the Caribbean is a challenge; so the idea of running in around 85 degrees and up and down Grenada’s rugged terrain, was pretty daunting.
Why would he take on such a challenge, we hear you ask!
James was actually running for a charity in Grenada which is very close to his heart. It’s called “Attach a Leg Grenada” and their chief aim is to make prosthetic legs for the amputees of Grenada in order to get them walking again.
James raised an amazing EC$21,000 for “Attach a Leg”; with donations flooding in from the Caribbean, the UK and beyond.
James made short stops on the way with his film crew to hear more about the need for this wonderful work. James interviewed many amputees along the way; some are hoping to receive a new leg and others already have them and are mobile again. One particular guy – Leroy – ran alongside James for part of the way on crutches. Leroy is certainly on the list for a new leg and he is keen to get running with James in the future.
Thank you “Attach a Leg” for your wonderful work in the Grenada community and a special thank you to James for taking on such a big challenge and raising such a large amount of money.
Here’s a short video of James presenting the check to “Attach a Leg” charity.
