When chartering with Horizon for a family trip in the BVI’s we were fortunate to have Captain Pieter and Theresa (the Admiral) on our 51 foot catamaran. In our pre-meeting they took the time to listen to everything we were asking for in our “perfect trip”. We had such a warm welcome with a beautiful lunch, champagne and a pre-sail introduction to Vienna, our beautiful well maintained boat. Their knowledge of the BVIs was critical. Their personal connections with the locals really facilitated the best experience. We had good wind and they skillfully planned routes that let us gain knowledge with each point of sail. They did not hesitate to suggest small changes from the plan that would result in a more restful night or a more beautiful place to wake up. We hit the highlights as well as some “old Caribbean” look and feel anchorages. Pieter and Theresa timed our visits so we missed the crowds and the entire trip felt very custom. Theresa prepared fresh, delicious food while Pieter mixed some great cocktails! They were so knowledgeable about sailing and life aboard and were happy to teach and share. Their teamwork was great to watch. The communication with us throughout the week made for a very personalized trip. By the end of the week it felt like we just spent time with family and 2 great friends. I cannot recommend them enough.

This is my second charter with Horizon, and I can’t imagine a better experience. Meticulous and efficient, while still being relaxed and laid back. We had a top shelf experience from start to finish, and will surely be back. Thank you. As for sailing, I’m an old had at racing and cruising monohulls. This was my first cat, and it sure is a different experience. The crew (not really sailors at heart) loved it. A floating Winnebago. But I had a hard time sailing on anything but a beam reach and with the light winds that week we mostly motored. I think the crew would have been just as happy with a power cat. Nonetheless, I gained great new experiences myself that week. What looked intimidating on Day 1 was well within my command by Day 2. A very easy boat to control, particularly for a catamaran novice.
