Jeanneau 490 (2019) 'Casbah II'
Overview

Jeanneau 490The Jeanneau 490 Casbah II is a sleek modern cruising yacht with a custom dark grey painted hull and red boot stripe so you are sure to stand out on the water. This vessel was named Cruising World’s 2019 Import Boat of the Year.

Above decks and under sail

Starting at the stern, an extra-large swim platform offers easy boarding and with twin helms, there is clear access through the cockpit to the companionway. Ease of movement around the decks is greatly enhanced by a uniquely designed walk around deck with gently sloping side decks into the cockpit. Casbah also has the upgraded cockpit coamings which are hinged and fold out to make large loungers on both sides of the cockpit. She carries her beam well aft, so not only do you benefit from a huge cockpit, (with a full coverage bimini) but the twin rudders necessitated by the wide beam also give ‘4×4’ steering under sail.  The shoal draft 5’5” keel allows access to virtually any mooring ball in the BVIs. The 490 is equipped with roller furling mainsail and genoa, with all control lines led aft to inboard-mounted primary electric winches, in addition to the electric coach roof winch, so you can be under full sail, shorthanded, in under 2 minutes. There is a full array of Raymarine electronics, including autopilot, chart plotter, radar, wind speed, depth and boat speed of course.  Casbah II is fast, fun, and exhilarating to sail. Once at anchor and night falls, turn on the underwater lights to attract the magnificent tarpon which is so abundant in the BVI.

Under power

Jeanneau 490 Casbah II has the upgraded 80HP Yanmar engine which will deliver 8.5 knots cruising speed under power.

Below decks

The Jeanneau 490 Casbah II will appeal to those looking to sail in spacious luxury. The large stateroom is forward with an island queen double with a separate large shower with sink to starboard and a head with sink to port. There is two more well-appointed queen-sized double cabins aft. There is also a second head and shower aft.

The galley is well equipped with a three-burner stove and oven, double sinks, a large dual access refrigerator and a separate freezer. There is additional wine bottle storage under the saloon sole.

To starboard in the saloon, there is a generous folding dining table with a central bench seat and there is plentiful storage under all the saloon seating. The table can also be lowered to form an extra double berth. The ambient light below is exceptional, with hull and deck portlights supplemented by multiple hatches. 3 zone air-conditioning and a generator ensure comfort and power at anchor. The Fusion sound system syncs via WiFi with the TV and speakers in the saloon as well as the cockpit.

If you enjoy getting ‘in the groove’ sailing a monohull, but also love space and light, above and below decks, the Jeanneau 490 is a brilliant choice for your next sailing trip.

Jeanneau 490 (2019) 'Casbah II' Reviews
Chuck Gruber, Dec 2021

Last week my family and I had the opportunity to spend a week sailing the BVI on the Casbah II. We have been chartering with Horizon for over 20 years and you guys just seem to get better every time.

The complexity of traveling internationally via planes and ferry’s is at an all time high but the help, advice and flexibility of your office staff made that manageable. Your boat descriptions and providing the manual in advance helped us get familiar with the boat and make sure we brought just want we needed. The tight check-in and check-out schedule we had to allow maximum boat time in light of the reduced travel options worked flawlessly.

Again, we were on the Casbah II and, with the high winds and seas last week, we got to see all she has to offer. Just great sailing for which the BVI is well known. You guys are just the best.

I’d say don’t change and you’re the best and the best doesn’t stand still. I know you will come up with new ways to make our next charter even better. We can’t wait for that time.

Enjoy the Holidays and our family wishes yours a very prosperous and safe 2022.

Find Your Rate

Please note we have 5 nights minimum and 7 nights min between Dec 18 and Jan 4.

Did you know Horizon’s charters start and finish at noon, which means we can get you out sailing your first afternoon after your briefings and you sail back to our dock to debrief and refuel before your noon departure? This gives you a full 6 nights/7 days chartering around our beautiful islands, unlike some companies that start at 5pm, meaning you will have to sleepaboard* at the docks, and then finish at 10am, again meaning you will probably have to stay overnight on the docks the night before you leave to fly home.

*If available, a sleep aboard can be added the night before your charter start for a small supplement, boarding your yacht after 5pm.
