Since its foundation in 1998, Horizon Yacht Charters continues to be actively involved and engaged in the communities of the British Virgin Islands and St. Vincent & the Grenadines – the two islands the company and its crew call home.
Sailing and the sea is in Horizon’s DNA. It’s a passion that evolved into a business. The desire to share the joy of sailing expands beyond the business of yacht sales and charters, with Horizon committed to supporting the development of the sport at grass roots level and beyond in both the BVI and SVG.

Initiatives and organizations supported by Horizon include the Royal BVI Yacht Club - the national sailing federation in the BVI, whose youth sailing programme benefits from donations in cash and kind as well as resources. Funding also comes from charter guests whose donations go towards the purchase of sailing equipment, new life jackets and travel to international races. In SVG, fleet owners have supported youth sailing with donations to support development and training in preparation for competition including the Asuncion 2025 Junior Pan American Games.
Helping to build marine skills is a key focus and Horizon offers internships to young aspiring mariners. A standout moment of pride was the gold medal win at the World Games in Greece in 2011 by the late Delroy Gordon, a member of the Special Olympics BVI Sailing Team, who had gained work experience with Horizon as part of the Sailability Apprenticeship Scheme.

Protecting marine life and the eco system is fundamental to Horizon. Best marine practices from the use of non-leaching bottom paint, ecofriendly cleaning products and strictly enforced use of holding tanks are standard company policies to protect and preserve the quality of our marine world including coral reefs. Not only are they spectacular to view but coral reefs protect coastlines from the damaging effects of wave action and tropical storms, provide habitats and shelter for many marine organisms, and are the source of nitrogen and other essential nutrients for marine food chains. Horizon encourages its visitors to support Beyond the Reef, a non-profit BVI based organisation working to protect the ocean ecosystems of the BVI and encourage & educate the next generations to protect it.
From sponsoring and promoting community events that encourage participation in fun, aquatic sports such as the Drowned Island Challenge and BVI Wreck Week to supporting Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR), Horizon is vested in supporting the continued success and safety of activities on and in the water. Horizon is also a member of Pack for a Purpose - an initiative that affords visitors the opportunity to support community projects such as the Family Support Network, Youth Empowerment Programme and the Humane Society. In SVG, donations to the SVG Hotel & Tourism Association fundraising gala supports local causes as well as facilitating enjoyment of yacht sailing by residents.

Horizon is a committed sponsor of the CIBC Caribbean Walk for the Cure initiative and is proud to be part of the movement that helps to raise awareness and funds in the fight against cancer in the BVI.
Truly integrated into community life, Horizon steps up to the plate when nature throws a curve ball as demonstrated in SVG following the passage of Hurricane Beryl. The team on the ground organized a donation drive focused on vital items such as generators, solar panels, and charging systems to help restore power and improve living conditions. Several yacht owners also generously contributed by donating their yachts for transportation and delivery by the dedicated Horizon crew on the ground.
Closer to home, Horizon can be relied on by its team members to be on hand when needed – a reassurance that’s always appreciated!
