Hi, I’m Cara, the Manager of Horizon Sailing School. Originally from London and raised in Italy, I’ve been sailing in BVI waters with Horizon since I was a child. Over the years, my passion for sailing grew into a career, and I’m proud to now oversee Horizon’s Sailing School operations and instructor team.
I hold ASA 201, 203, 204, 205, and 214 certifications, as well as a Yachtmaster Offshore qualification. In 2022, I was honored as an ASA Outstanding Instructor of the Year—an award that recognizes the top 1% of ASA instructors worldwide. More recently, I earned my ASA Instructor Examiner qualification, becoming one of only about 20 worldwide with this distinction. This allows me not only to mentor students but also to qualify and inspire new instructors, helping set the standard for Horizon’s Sailing School.
While I’m now shore-based managing the Sailing School, I bring years of practical experience sailing throughout the BVI, the wider Caribbean, and internationally—from yacht deliveries across the Atlantic to racing at Cowes Week in the UK. I’m also fluent in English, French, and Italian, and bring a background as a former British National Alpine Ski Team member, PADI diver, and qualified personal trainer.
At Horizon, my focus is on ensuring every student and instructor has the tools, training, and support to succeed. My approach has always been about safety, fun, and growth, and I’m passionate about sharing that with everyone who comes through our school.

I’m from the UK but since starting working on yachts at 18 I haven’t looked back. I have spent my time on boats from South Africa to the Mediterranean and most recently, the BVI.
I am RYA Yachtmaster Ocean qualified, completing my training in the UK and in South Africa. My resume includes work on multiple superyachts in the Mediterranean, so I’m no stranger to excellent service, an Atlantic crossing, which gave me plenty of time to fine-tune my sailing skills and Captain on a 22m yacht based in Monaco which I safely navigated across France, Spain and Italy.
I have a range of skills from yacht maintenance to water sports and I pride myself on always giving guests a great experience in all aspects of their trip.

Hi there, I am Captain Royce! Come with me and embark on an adventure to remember. I am lucky to be born and raised here on the beautiful Island of Tortola. Living on the north side of the island and growing up listening to the sounds of the waves, I’ve always felt a calling to the water. Naturally, I pursued a career path that allowed me to chase the rhythm of waves. I am RYA Yacht-Master Offshore certified, completing my training in the United Kingdom and in the BVI. I have numerous years of experience on and off the docks and within the customer service industry. My number one goal as skipper is to provide a worthwhile experience here in the BVI or aboard adorned in safety as well as providing my expertise in high quality seamanship. As a local it fills me with pride to be your skipper taking you island hopping in my backyard. So get your mind and body ready for the vacation and an adventure of a lifetime.

Hi, I’m Bethany! I grew up in the UK and have always been happiest on the water. I started my career in watersports, teaching dinghy sailing, windsurfing, and paddleboarding, before moving into larger yachts after finishing school. Over the years, I’ve taught a range of RYA courses including Level 1 and 2 Sailing, Competent Crew, Day Skipper, and Powerboat and Jet Ski training. I’m also an RYA Yachtmaster and Cruising Instructor, and spent time teaching in the Solent before chasing my dream of living and sailing in the Caribbean.
I first came to the BVI last season and loved it so much I couldn’t stay away! Now, as an ASA Instructor teaching up to ASA 114, I get to share my passion for sailing with guests and help create unforgettable, tailor-made trips. When I’m not on the water, you’ll probably find me swimming, snorkeling, or enjoying the quirky charm of Jost Van Dyke.

Hi, I’m Noah. Born and raised in the beautiful British Virgin Islands, I’ve been sailing these waters since I was 8 years old. After completing high school in the UK, I earned my RYA Yacht Master certification and came home to carve out my career as a local Captain.
With years of experience navigating and sailing the BVI, I specialize in giving guests an authentic, local perspective—whether it’s discovering hidden gems, enjoying world-class snorkeling spots, or soaking in the magic of island life under sail.
In addition to skippering charters, I also run Horizon's water taxi service aboard my Sunseeker 38 “Athena”, offering fast, stylish, and comfortable transfers throughout the islands.

Whether you're looking to learn, wanting the support of an experienced sailor onboard, or the luxury of a fully crewed yacht, we offer flexible, personalized options across the world's most breathtaking cruising grounds.
We have a selection of the most reputable and experienced skippers available in the BVI in-house. We assign these to charters based on availability but if you’ve chartered with anyone specific before, be sure to request them again if you’d like.
Aside from their daily fee, the only additional costs to consider when including a captain or chef would be their provisioning and gratuity. When provisioning for the crew, just consider an additional person for any meal planning. If you plan on eating ashore, either provide the crew with some cash ($30-50/pp) to get themselves something, or invite them to your table or give them some clear instructions on what they can have onboard.
In the Caribbean, the industry standard is around 15-20% of the charter value, depending on your experience. One thing to keep in mind is that ATMs in the BVI can sometimes run out of cash.
