We asked the Horizon Yacht Charters crew to spill the actual essentials they’d never leave the dock without — and they delivered. From beach bar hacks to unexpected must-haves, these are the top 10 items our staff says will level up your Caribbean sailing adventure.

“It’s an obvious one, but absolutely key. Especially if you’re swimming into beach bars and not using the tender. Keep your phone, cash, and dry clothes safe and sand-free.” – Kayleigh, Luxury Crewed Yacht Specialist Whether you’re hopping ashore for a sunset cocktail or snorkeling into that secret cove, a dry bag is your best friend. Bonus: we sell them in-store if you forget!
“Most beach bars serve only bottles or cans — we always bring our own koozies to keep drinks cold under the sun.” – Rhys, Charter Sales Manager Pro tip: Even though we always make sure to place a couple on your yacht for you, you can never have enough, so we recommend getting a couple and stashing them in your beach bag. Your cold beer (or soda!) will thank you. |
You never know when your sunnies will decide to jump ship! So bring spares — or save yourself the trouble and bring a floating sunglasses strap (don’t worry, we sell these in office too!). Sunglasses that stay on your face? Revolutionary.
Space is at a premium on board and hard-shell suitcases can often be more of a nuisance than anything! Soft cases can be tucked away easily — leaving more room for essentials.
Not every coastline is a soft white-sand paradise. If you’re scrambling across rocks to find cliff-jumping spots or just exploring tide pools, you’ll be glad you brought grippy water shoes. And if you’re looking to fit in with the locals, a pair of Crocs really are the way to go!
Set the mood! Whether it’s tender trips ashore or a private party on a remote beach, a compact speaker brings the vibes.
A pack of cards, some dominoes, or a compact board game can go a long way after sunset or during a lazy sail day, afterall…
“You’re not going to be in the water all the time.” – Tiayana, Assistant Accountant
The Caribbean may be warm, but the wind and sun can wear you down. A rash vest or wetsuit top will protect you from the elements and are great if you’re looking to get into kitesurfing, e-foiling, or wingfoiling.
Capture those moments — from dolphins off the bow to turtles underwater. And if you plan on taking your phone along, a waterproof case is great, especially for the swim up to Soggy Dollar on White Bay, Jost Van Dyke!
“Protect the reef and your skin.” – Sandra | Charter Co-ordinator & Shayna | Accountant
The Caribbean sun hits different. Choose reef-safe sunscreen to help protect marine life, and pack aloe for the times you forget to reapply. We also have reef-safe options, shirts, hats, and rash vests in store — if you need a top-up or forgot to pack something.
There’s nothing worse than battling with your hair during a sail or after a swim, after lots of trial and error we’ve found the best solution!
“A claw clip is the best hack for keeping your hair contained in the wind and for a sleek look after swimming!” – Gabi, Marketing Officer & Content Creator
These crew-approved essentials are the secret to smooth sailing and good times. A little prep goes a long way — especially when it means fewer sunburns and better beach days!
