The infamous BVI Spring Regatta is an event those in the BVI look forward to every year, especially those of us in Nanny Cay where the Regatta Village takes place. Last year, the esteemed 2x Olympian Dr. Robin Tattersall, a 94-year-old sailing legend whose passion for the sport remains undiminished, took the helm of Jitterbug, our pristine 2017 Bavaria 37. They crew enjoyed a fabulous week of racing, even though the wind was down. A Remarkable Performance

Competing in the Bareboat 2 category of the Round Tortola Race of the Nanny Cay Cup event on Day 1 of the BVI Spring Regatta, Dr. Tattersall and his crew delivered an impressive performance. They secured a first-place finish with a corrected time of 4:43:47, showcasing not only the capabilities of Jitterbug but also the enduring skill and determination of its crew. Jitterbug was 4th across the finish line within minutes of three 46 footers and after 6+ hours of racing ahead of all the 41s and 42s.

“I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it. I thought to myself last night, “what a stupid thing to do”, I have all sorts of structural problems but then I thought, “what a way to go!” Racing was fine, there was quite a lot of breeze, my knowledge of the track, the tides and winds helped the crew but mainly staying on the boat and not falling over was enough! I’ve always loved this race and used to have so much excitement on Diva, my 1930 30 square meter; I once lost the rig on her in a big blow during this race,” Robin said to the BVISR media.
