Horizon 2024 Wrapped: A Look Back at Our Fleet’s Journey

As the new season rolls around, we can’t help but sit back and think, “Wow, what a year it’s been!” Our fleet has been busy sailing not just all over the BVI, but all over the Caribbean, adding 680 unforgettable sailing vacations to the books! So, let’s recap…

A trip down-island

Our trusty Captain Cara, along with her crew Kyle and Cordy sailed Cadenza down to St Vincent and the Grenadines for a taste of different, but just as blue, waters. Her owners spent a gorgeous 2 weeks sailing and exploring the Grenadines from St Lucia to Grenada. But we’re not sure who had a better sail, her delivery crew or her owners, as Cara and the guys still talk about the Mahi and Tuna they caught, and their whale and dolphin sightings 9 months later!

A couple deliveries later…

Our beloved Rendezvous and Patches had the same idea and set off to join our trusted St Vincent & The Grenadines fleet in early November after a collective 13 years in our fleet. Oh, how they’ll be missed! Our new Charter Co-Ordinator Imogen (who you’ll come to meet on our dock) and her trusty deckhand Sam (who you’ve probably already met on our dock!) were a key part of that delivery and had a great couple of idyllic days sailing across the Atlantic. From there they flew to Guadaloupe where Boss Man Tubes met them and a few others to start the delivery of our new boats Rendezvous IIIOasis and Island Riff to the BVI where they’d meet our new Lagoon 51 Slinky Malinky!

The Lenny Shabes Sailing Flotilla Week

Before her relocation to SVG, Rendezvous and Arctic Fantasy joined 15 other yachts for the Lenny Shabes Sailing Flotilla Week hosted by American Sailing. Their sailors had a fabulous time glow paryting at the Willy T, Hobie Cat Sailing in Bitter End and getting ASA qualified all while taking in the postcard-worthy views around them! Our very own Content Creator Gabi even got an escape from the office to get a taste of life on the water – she found it very hard to return to her desk after that! Our yachts made such an impression on the ASA Team this year, that they’ve offered Horizon the opportunity to host the next flotilla this year in June 2025!

Lots of new sailors at the helm!

In May and November, Rendezvous and Rhythm & Blues had Cara and 12 keen sailors at their helms for our well-loved by-the-cabin Sailing School weeks. Those same keen sailors left ASA qualified and with a boat-load of new friends after a week of tacking, jibing and just plain fun in the Caribbean sun! Cringe? Maybe. True? Definitely!

Back to island time

As the low season rolled around, the islands took a much-needed breath of air and things slowed back down to island time – *gasp* for all those who think things are slow already! But even though our dock wasn’t getting as much foot-fall, we still had a fair few boats going out, one of which was Soca Sleigh who had New Zealand Sail GP’s Shore Manager Finn at the helm who took for her some high-speed spinnaker sailing all the way up to Anegada with a couple days spent exploring the rest of the BVI in perfect weather, fair winds and quiet bays.

Big ups!

Jitterbug, one of our oldest and most loved monohulls was also helmed by a sailing legend, the BVI’s very own 93-year-old Dr Robin Tattersall who raced her in the BVI Spring Regatta. Both her, Dr T and his crew were put through their paces but showed the Young Guns that the Old Salts still have it! Dr T wasn’t the only one thrown into the spotlight this year, as Hakuna Matata IV’s owner Jamie Brown paired up with us for a webinar with SAIL Magazine, putting Horizon and the BVI on the map for Caribbean yacht ownership ahead of the Annapolis Boat Show, which was a great success! We had our largest staff turnout with 12 HYC Crew flying in from across the globe to sell some boats, and sell some boats we did! Thank you to all of those who stopped by, we loved catching up with you, especially Jalon who got to reunite with some of his biggest fans! Along with the Annapolis Boat Show we took part in boat shows in Miami, Cannes, Croatia, BVI and the USVI – all great events to be immersed in the industry at large and ensure we’re bringing the latest and greatest to the Caribbean. Our New Lagoon 65 Endless Summer III joined our luxury crewed fleet and made her BVI debut by taking place in the 2024 BVI Charter Yacht Show and reigniting the legacy of the Endless Summer yachts of the 80s and 90s, thanks to her dedicated crew Harry, Martha and Candace.

Over September, our fleet got primed and polished to the Nth degree to ensure they were looking, operating and giving their best for the upcoming season, with four of our boats Tola SunriseHakuna Matata IVLuna and Cosette getting new sails – catch them if you can! And in the beginning of December, Carpe Diem arrived and found her place on our lovely F-dock at Nanny Cay.

Best of all…

But as much as we’re all about boats, we’re not all about boats. We had a very merry Christmas and celebrated with our famous Horizon Dock Party and Secret Santa – both were a hoot and had us all feeling festive!

And this year we were graced with some new additions to our HYC Kid’s Crew with Nixon, Captain Dom and Kim welcoming babies into the world!

As well as three new additions to our HYC Crew, Imogen joining us as Charter Co-Ordinator in Operations, Tyshanna joining as Accounts Assistant in Finance and our new Sales Manager joining in January, introductions to come!

And just like that the 2024 season comes to an end! Thank you to our owners who continue to partner with us, our staff who keep us thriving, all of those who chartered with us, and to you who’s reading this. May this next season be just as great, if not better!

To keep up with the day-to-day on F-dock give us some love!
