Perfect Sailing

The perfect Caribbean sailing destination

horizon_5_smThe British Virgin Islands are considered by many to be the perfect Caribbean sailing destination for first-time sailboat charterers, with calm seas, constant trade winds and line-of-sight navigation. Experienced sailors will also enjoy the wealth of different islands to visit, including the coral island of Anegada. There are hundreds of stunning anchorages and moorings in the BVI to explore and the moorings are all secure and well maintained. The itinerary shown is just an example of some of the places you might visit on the way. Yacht-moorings, for overnight stays during BVI yacht charters, are available in many locations and there are plenty of attractive beach bars and restaurants around the islands.

Highlights of the Area

The Baths, Virgin Gorda

thebathsThe Baths Virgin Gorda is consistently voted as one of the best beaches in the world on TripAdvisor. A part of the Baths National Park, the centrepiece of this dramatic area on Virgin Gorda’s north shore is The Baths, a geological wonder comprised of awe-inspiring granite boulders, which form sheltered sea pools on the beach’s edge. The protected area also includes Devil’s Bay, which can be reached from The Baths by a series of ladders scaling the boulders. Just north of The Baths Virgin Gorda, Spring Bay is reached by a separate road and includes a lovely white sand beach.

Encompassing the beaches and rocky shoreline at the southwestern tip of Virgin Gorda, The Baths is a collection of massive granite boulders as large as 40 feet in diameter, with white sand beaches and secret rock pools.

No trip to the BVI would be complete without a visit to the Baths Virgin Gorda.

North Sound, Virgin Gorda

If you want entertainment, Bitter End Yacht Club offers music most nights – here you can re-provision your boat, visit the shops, rent a Hobie Cat, learn to windsurf , … there is lots to do. Leverick Bay has a marina facility also and a good restaurant. Biras Creek is for those seeking elegance and first-class service – the resort has one of the best restaurants and wine cellars in the BVI (there is a dress code after 7pm).

North Sound is also home to Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, setting an unprecedented standard in the British Virgin Islands with the highest level of services and amenities at YCCS Marina, Virgin Gorda.  As a result there will invariably see several super-yachts in the area and around the whole of the BVI during your sailing vacation. Here are a few that we saw recently:
