7 reasons to vacation in the Caribbean this May
May is a perfect time to enjoy the Caribbean. Our average daily temperature is a beautiful 85 degrees. In the evening, when the cocktails are being created onboard and the limes are being squeezed, you will see temperatures drop to a sensible 78 degrees. Arguably, it could be the most perfect time to spend your time sailing and bobbing around on the blue Caribbean; a nice suntan by day and cool enough to sleep with the Caribbean breeze in the evening. Paradise is calling your name this May.
The ‘Flavours of Grenada’ festival takes place this year on May 20 and this is a chance to take your foodie cravings to new levels. Here’s a chance to try locally created dishes, regional gourmet cuisine and some exotic delicacies. Of course, where’s there’s food, there’s wine and cocktails! Mixologists will be putting their talents to the test with competitions to balance the most tropical flavours and spices. It’s a journey through food, wine and the warmth and culture of these wonderful Caribbean people. The event would not be complete without live music straight from the island’s heart.
3 NO HUSTLE AND BUSTLE
With the last Caribbean sailing regatta taking place during April it’s the perfect time to jump on a plane and enjoy some spring sailing or take a luxury crewed vacation afloat. The anchorages are less busy as well as the beach bars and restaurants. It’s not as quiet as the summer months of August and September, but the mooring fields are certainly less full. It’s great to be able to take your time, enjoy a wonderful sail and then find a great spot for a swim and sundowners.
4 WHO’S FOR A DIP?
From May onwards, the Caribbean water temperature starts to warm nicely; just perfect for that early morning swim before breakfast to start another perfect day. Water temperatures in May are around 80 degrees and, as the days get a little longer too, there’s no excuse not to have your daily sea bath or just relax on a noodle off the back of the boat.
5 IF IT’S THE GRENADINES, IT MUST BE CHOCOLATE
Just squeezing in to our top 5 reasons to come vacation in May is the Grenada Chocolate Festival on May 31 2019. If ever you needed an excuse to eat more chocolate, then this has to be it. As well as an amazing cruising ground perfect for island-hopping, Grenada is also known as the chocolate island. Explore how these talented farmers grow organic cocoa and turn it into sumptuous chocolate bars with exotic flavours. Try your hand at truffle making and learn more from these local artisans on their production methods; from “tree to bar”!
